Sharp Photos

12 Possible Reasons Why Your Photos Are Too Soft

Few things are more frustrating than taking an image you are especially proud of or excited about, only to check the back of your camera and realize that it is not sharp and the moment has passed. If you find yourself frustrated by soft photos, check out this fantastic video tutorial that discusses 12 possible reasons your shots are soft and how to fix them and get those razor-sharp images you are after.

Coming to you from Katelyn James, this excellent video tutorial discusses 12 reasons why your images might be soft. Using too slow a shutter speed is one I frequently see, even from experienced photographers, often in an attempt to keep the ISO as low as possible. Of course, lower ISOs generally mean better image quality, but that often tempts us to try to use a slower shutter speed than we really should. A sharp but noisy photo is always preferable to a cleaner but blurry image. You can always run noise reduction in post, but if a photo is blurry due to subject motion or camera shake, there really is not much you can do to bring it back. Don’t be afraid to bump up that ISO when necessary! Check out the video above for the full rundown from James.
